3. Great album. Accessible flute-based playing (+ Yusef's trademark battery of oddball wind instruments). One caveat, and I will not dock a star in the rating for this: the loud, long, distortion-sound version of Hey Jude is redolent of its time, probably a necessary pop inclusion to make the record company happy, and the one cut on the album that I always jump past because the sheer shrill /5(16).

5. The amazing first album from Gentle Giant – a crucially overlooked group from the key years of the UK jazz-rock scene! The album definitely comes at things from a rock perspective, but there's a hell of a lot of fusion in the mix too – especially in the guitar and keyboard parts, which jump around with these sharp edges that rival some of the more jazz-based fusion from the European scene.
